Sharing My Experiences On Twitter Marketing

By Barry Houston

Programs to automate Twitter marketing tasks were being greatly promoted a few years ago. It was believed that you could use Twitter as an effective way to grow a list of potential buyers for your products or services. But the question is, were any of those softwares and programs that were introduced, actually doing you any good? Precisely how great is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to determine if it will actually repay your time and effort.

I was one of those who was interested to see if getting a big following on Twitter was going to help my product promotion campaigns and so purchased the tools. I enlisted in programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and purchased software tools to help promote my products. By the time I was finished, I'd invested in something like eight programs to perform some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

One of these software tools was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the aim that some of those people would follow me in return. Those who were not following me on Twitter would be automatically removed from my follow list by another program I had paid for. This would enable me to follow different people again to get them to follow me. Amongst other Multi Level Marketing programs I got hold of, there was one which automatically tweeted a blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog.

Initially, I was genuinely delighted with the end results after using the programs in combination because they actually delivered on what they promised. But as soon as it appeared that I wasn't generating any money, my initial excitement was soon dampened. I would post to my blog 10 times each day and those posts would be displayed directly on Twitter just like they ought to. Then I discovered a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, hoping that the more posts I would have the more folks who would see them.

So, the following are my results: After three years using these methods, I had built almost 10,000 Twitter followers. You may be very delighted to achieve that number of followers, but there's more to come. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on no less than fifteen thousand posts in my Twitter account.

My blog posts appearing on Twitter was the only kind of advertising for that blog I did and to determine the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well I found, in the last 3 years I made 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I made $8.52 with Adsense. And that specific blog only receives about 2 to 4 visitors daily from Twitter.

Even with close on 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not sufficient to generate money marketing with Twitter. The bottom line is that the money I've generated is not adequate to cover the cost of the Twitter tools I paid for to start with. So in my view, although there may be good ways to promote on Twitter, investing in the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
